I am currently in a folding chair.

On the sidewalk of a strip mall.

A closed strip mall.

And I will be here all night.

E3, the Electronic Entertainment Expo, happened this weekend. Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony all unveiled new motion-based controllers. Three new takes on the idea, all completely different – and all inherently flawed.

What an awesome weekend. Played tennis on Friday after work. Woke up on Saturday with no power. Called National Grid, power was restored in about 45 minutes. We left shortly after to go shopping, and noticed that the power crews were busy replacing a street light/power line pole down the street that had somehow splintered apart about 6 feet off the ground.

Went shopping, then golfed with and played tennis with Neil in the afternoon. There was absolutely no one on the entire course, which really failed to make any sense at all. On Sunday, I went for a run, hit the weight room, then played tennis in the evening with Emily for almost 3 hours.

Got up today, chilled out and watched some BSG, then played some more tennis with Emily. Then met up with Neil to play another round of golf and was pleasantly surprised that Aaron and Lisa showed up too.

The crazy thing was that the forecast kept predicting rain all weekend, but all we got was a little bit on Saturday evening. We had absolutely gorgeous weather since Friday, and I’ve definitely been making the most of it.

I don’t want to go back to work. I want to play more tennis, golf more, go hiking, and go to a water park.

And, oh yeah, Jon and Joan had their baby on Saturday.

What’s next

American Idol is over.
24 is over.
Heroes is over.
Lost is over.

So I’m pretty much done with TV for the year, except for So You Think You Can Dance and My Boys.

I do have the complete Battlestar Galactica ready to go though. We’re halfway through the miniseries right now and pretty intrigued.

Looks like summer 09 will be full of mulligans, aces, and Cylons.

Sometimes I feel like the only person on earth who never really played any sports or did anything outside while growing up. I was in Little League for one season when I was about 12 or 13, but I was the worst kid on the team and never really cared for it at all. I had never even been hiking or camping or anything like that until I joined the Outing Club.

I’ve been playing tennis with Emily lately, though, and just started playing with some of my other friends. We joined a tennis club (the Troy Tennis Association) and will be playing against strangers soon, which I’m really excited about.

I also just started golfing. I got some cheap clubs off Craigslist, went to the driving range a couple of times, and just went on a
[small, par 3] course for the first time with the gang on Saturday
morning. It’s very… communal and social, as well as refreshing.

I’m having a hell of a lot of fun with it all, but it makes me think about how much I must have missed out on the past 10+ years. I never did anything outside of school besides video games. No musical instruments, no sports, no hobbies or activities. I’m really not sure why that is. School came so easily to me that I never really applied myself to anything but games and, eventually, computers. I’m sometimes not really even sure I have the ability to apply myself to anything.

It’s really nice to have something like this to do. The competition, friendly as it is, drives me a little bit.

I actually kinda feel like a kid. Or, at least, the way I imagine that normal kids felt. And I really like it.
